Guidance reviewed 4 October 2026.

A community garden can help you meet neighbours and learn about growing plants, but it is not automatically a market, a food shop or a drop-in attraction.

Find a current group

City of Sydney maintains community-garden information. Green Square Growers is one listed local group, associated with Tote and Joynton parks and Banga Community Shed in the Green Square area. Contact the group through the council listing to confirm the next meeting and how to join.

Ask before visiting

Check access, volunteering arrangements and whether tools, training or membership are required. Produce from a community garden belongs to the relevant garden arrangements; visitors should not assume they can pick or buy it.

Markets are separate events

Use the council’s events guide for current market dates. Confirm the location, trading hours and visitor arrangements with the current event organiser.
