Little Bay’s hospital history reaches back to the Coast Hospital, established in 1881 during Sydney’s smallpox outbreak. The site later became Prince Henry Hospital. The area’s history is broader than the modern residential redevelopment.

The Coast Hospital cemetery

Randwick City Council’s history collection describes burials associated with the hospital across multiple diseases and years, including patients, staff and Aboriginal and Chinese people. The cemetery records span several decades and include deaths from different causes.

Learn from the heritage resources

The Prince Henry Hospital Nursing and Medical Museum documents the hospital’s development and later closure. Use its current visitor information to check opening and access rather than assuming surviving hospital buildings are operating hospitals.

Respect the place

Consult council heritage resources when exploring the precinct and respect cemetery access and cultural significance.
