Finding your ideal home is preceded with hours of research, many private viewings and perhaps a few open for inspections. Purchasing any property is a big step and there are many things that you should look out for at any viewing. Here is the ultimate checklist to take with you to any open house.
What tell-tale signs can you see that tell you of anything suspect?
Are there any cracks in the walls or paint that’s peeling? Is there any mould that looks concerning? Other key indicators of something suspect include a sagging roof as well as insufficient water pressure from the taps.
Smells tell you a story as well!
Some sellers will try to mask any potential smells through the use of candles or potpourri – so be wary if you smell these. Other tell-tale signs include the smell of damp or musty closets. Smelling burnt electrics? Be sure to check the power points for any damage.
Do you hear anything?
Sound is another great thing to add to your checklist. Is the road noisy or can you hear the neighbours clearly? From nearby construction work to intrusive traffic, sound plays a key part in your overall comfort in a home. Other things to listen out for are creaky stairs or floorboards and overhead airplanes (perhaps indicating that you are under a flight path).
