Guidance reviewed 3 October 2026.

Summer preparation can improve comfort when equipment is maintained and changes suit the building.

Maintain according to instructions

Clean accessible filters where the manual allows and arrange suitable servicing. Do not handle refrigerants, wiring or fixed fan repairs yourself. Not every refrigerator requires manual defrosting; follow its instructions.

Plan for hot days

Use suitable shade, keep vents clear and consider how the home performs when outside temperatures rise. Follow NSW Health advice during extreme heat and prepare access to a cooler place if needed. In rentals, report faults early and coordinate lawful access for repairs rather than changing fixed equipment without consent.
