Guidance reviewed 3 October 2026.

A realistic moving plan allows tasks to be spread out rather than requiring everything to happen in one event.

Set priorities

Confirm mover quotes, access, timing and insurance. Sort and label belongings, and keep first-night essentials separate. Use safe lifting and leave heavy or awkward work to suitable help.

Allow flexibility

Check suppliers' actual return policies rather than assuming unused materials can always be returned. Arrange utility accounts and address changes separately. Leave time for delays, cleaning and unexpected tasks. A staged plan can reduce confusion without guaranteeing that every part of moving will be easy.
