The right repair depends on the floor material, finish and depth of damage. Timber, engineered boards and bamboo are not interchangeable.
Identify the surface first
Check product details or ask a flooring specialist before sanding, polishing or applying a repair product. Some engineered boards have limited capacity for sanding, and an unsuitable treatment can create uneven colour or damage the finish.
Prevent further wear
Use appropriate furniture pads and clean according to the manufacturer's guidance. Avoid excessive moisture and abrasive tools. Test approved products in an inconspicuous area where recommended. There is no universal eight-to-fifteen-year maintenance-free period; use, installation and care all affect condition. Obtain advice for deep scratches or widespread damage rather than promising a quick cosmetic cure.
